  1. This is the special BBS Shareware Distribution Package.  Disregard any
  2. reference to the INSTALL program.  That is used on our disk based
  3. distribution packages to create a directory and copy the files.

  5. There are two shareware versions of the GRAB Plus and WinGRAB system.
  6. Because of the size of the files we have split the DOS version into two 
  7. ZIP files. GRABDOC.ZIP is the manual and all of the necessary support files 
  8. for the DOS version. GRAB.ZIP is the DOS version program files and 
  9. WINGRAB.ZIP is the Windows version. The manual in the DOS shareware version
  10. had contained the instructions for the Windows version of our softwar
  11. We have removed all references from the GRAB.DOC user manual that wer
  12. directed to the Windows version of the software.

  14. When you register the full package for $39.95 you will receive the 
  15. DOS version of GRAB Plus.  If you want, you can add $10.00 and receive
  16. both the DOS GRAB Plus package as well as the Windows package WinGRAB.

  38. GRABDB and LaserLabel have been combined into one program. Use the
  39. instructions for LaserLabel in the GRAB.DOC file when using GRABDB.

  41. New PopGDB program.  Read the file POPGDB.DOC to see about the new
  42. TSR to pop up the GRABDB database like you can with GRAB.

  44. PostScript Printer users:
  45.  
  46. The font names are changed in the regular font changing selection for the
  47. PostScript printers now. The font size is changed in the locations setup
  48. section now.  The locations are now the same as all other printers using
  49. the row and column positioning to set up for printing.

  51. Different manufacturers of PostScript cartridges have hardware specific
  52. PostScript calls that can be used.  We have added the ability to enter the
  53. PostScript statusdict to select the different trays of the Hewlett Packard
  54. cartridges.  You have up to six lines you can enter in the Printer setup 
  55. strings routines.  Several PostScript examples are:

  57. Hewlett Packard LaserJet IIP and IIIP MP tray selection:

  72. Information on postal bar codes.  GRAB will only print the bar codes on 
  73. ZIP+4  or ZIP+6 zip codes.  If you do not have the plus four or six the 
  74. bar code will not be printed.

  76. Presently the only printers supporting the bar codes are:

  78. Hewlett Packard LaserJets and compatibles.
  79. DeskJet and DeskJet 500 with optional memory expansion and our fonts.
  80. PostScript printers.
  81. Epson dot matrix and compatibles.
  82.  
  83. We have the bar codes turned off in the style sheets PLAIN-S.STL and
  84. PLAIN-L.STL because the bar codes would print garbage if used on a printer
  85. that was not Epson compatible.  If you want the bar codes to print you must
  86. set the configuration in GRABCFG to print the bar codes.

  88. GRABDB and postnet bar codes:
  89.  
  90. GRABDB will print the postnet bar codes if you have the ZIP+4 or +6 ZIP codes
  91. in the GRABDB database. This option is only available on the large Avery 
  92. 5162/5262 labels used by the laser printers.  Check with the post office 
  93. for discounts on postage when using the postnet bar code feature.

  95. BDT Optional Paper and Envelope trays

  97. We have added four additional style sheets for the popular BDT trays for
  98. the DeskJets, LaserJets and IBM 4019 printers.  The style sheets are:

  102. BDTHP3.STL - LaserJet III
  103. BDTIBM.STL - IBM 4019

  112. TRAYII.STL and TRAYIII.STL ERROR in Manual
  113.  
  114. The manual should read that TRAYII.STL is for the Optional Mechanical
  115. Envelope Feed Tray for the LaserJet printers.  
  116.  
  117. The TRAYIII.STL is for the Optional Power Envelope Feed for the LaserJet
  118. printers. Notice, that the difference is Power vs Mechanical. If it has a
  119. plug and a wire, it's the TRAYIII.STL.
  120.  
  121. New Graphics for Dot Matrix Printers Feature
  122.  
  123. The program now supports the new graphics functions of Epson and compatible
  124. printers.  This will give a darker postnet bar code than the default of 
  125. quad density graphics.  This will only work on newer printers that supports
  126. the new graphics capibilities.

  128. Fujitsu Band Printer and Postnet Bar Codes
  129.  
  130. The label printing feature of GRABDB now supports the Fujitsu band printer
  131. postnet bar codes.  This printer is designed for high speed printing and
  132. is the answer if you've been printing a lot of labels.

  134. DeskJet and DeskJet Plus Postnet Bar Codes
  135.  
  136. You can now print postnet bar codes on the DeskJet and DeskJet Plus printers.
  137. Sorry, if you have a DeskJet 550C color printer, we are sorry to say that we
  138. have been unable to get the fonts to work on this printer.

  140. In order to use the postnet bar codes on the DeskJet printers, you must have
  141. the optional 256K RAM Cartridge part number HP22707B which is available from
  142. your local Hewlet Packard dealer or by calling 1-800-538-8787.

  144. After installing the RAM cartridge in your printer, you will need to "unpack"
  145. the archive file FONTS.COM.  This is a self extracting file that contains a
  146. shareware program called DOWNLOAD.EXE and sample soft fonts from Elfring
  147. Soft Fonts.  Elfring Soft Fonts has the largest collection of soft fonts
  148. available for the DeskJet printers. Information on ordering soft fonts from
  149. Elfring Soft Fonts is in the documentation included in this file as well as
  150. in our manual.

  152. We have created a small batch file called POSTNET.BAT which will download 
  153. the postnet bar code fonts to your DeskJet printer.  You can add the 
  154. following to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to make it an automatic process when
  155. starting your computer:

  159. If you have a different drive designation and or directory name than
  160. C:\GRABPLUS, make the appropriate substitution.

  162. You can print bar codes when printing mass labels also by selection the
  163. Non-Laser selection and setting DeskJet to "Y" in GRABDB or in WinGDB select
  164. DeskJet in the print setup Dialog box.

  166. DOS GRAB TSR can now paste address
  167.  
  168. The GRAB TSR program can now past the last address printed into your
  169. word processor if you want.  You can enter the GRABDB database program,
  170. find and print an address using GRAB.  Then when you enter your word
  171. processor, position the cursor where you want the address and press the 
  172. Paste Address Hot Key.  This key can be changed just as the main hot key
  173. by using GRABCFG.
